Your protein target

How is my daily floor worked out?

From your answers in onboarding: weight and height (typed, or read from Apple Health), age, goal, training, diet and life stage. Gram Slam picks a protein amount per kilogram for people like you (for example 1.2 g/kg for everyday health, 1.6 g/kg if you lift to build muscle) and multiplies it by a reference weight. Above a BMI of 25 the reference weight is adjusted, because muscle, not body fat, drives protein needs. Vegan and vegetarian diets get a small uplift. The result is rounded to 5 g. You → Your floor shows the number and a one-line reason.

What are the floor, the stretch and the cap?

The floor (the tick on the bar) is the minimum worth reaching: hit it and the day counts. The stretch (the soft band) is a great day. The cap is where Gram Slam stops cheering: past it the bar stops filling and you'll see a neutral note, because there's no proven benefit to going much higher. During pregnancy, in gentle mode, or with a clinician's number, the bar ends at the floor and there's no praise for going over.

Can I use my own number, or my dietitian's?

Yes. You → Your floor → Use my own number… (40–250 g a day). Tap "Back to the recommended floor" to undo it. If you told Gram Slam you have kidney disease, have been told to limit protein, or have an inborn metabolic disorder, the app won't suggest a number at all and asks for your clinician's instead.

Why didn't my floor change when my weight changed?

Each day keeps the target it started with, so past days stay fair. A new weight from Apple Health changes the floor from tomorrow, and only if it moves by 5 g or more. You can also tap You → Update my weight from Apple Health.

"Aim for the upper end": what does it do?

It's an opt-in for people who want more: your stretch becomes your floor. It isn't offered during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in gentle mode or with a clinician's number, and on a GLP-1 medicine the floor stays at 120 g or less.

Is this medical advice?

No. Gram Slam provides general wellness guidance for adults, not medical advice. If you have a health condition, are pregnant, or are under a clinician's care, ask your doctor or dietitian how much protein is right for you.

Logging

How do I edit or delete an entry?

Tap the entry on Today (or in History) to change the food, portion or count, then save. To delete, swipe left on it and tap Delete, or open it and tap Delete entry. Right after logging, the "Undo" toast at the top removes it in one tap. Edits and deletes are copied to Apple Health automatically.

How do I change a usual portion?

Long-press the usual tile on Today and pick a different portion or count. Gram Slam remembers it for next time.

A typed meal says "Couldn't find …"

Gram Slam reads sentences with its own rules first. If a word isn't in its food list, you can search for the food, pick one of the suggested alternatives, or remove that item and log the rest. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Gram Slam Plus can try to read what the rules couldn't, on your device.

The barcode wasn't found

Gram Slam looks barcodes up in Open Food Facts, a free, crowd-built database. If it says "Open Food Facts doesn't know this product yet", photograph the nutrition label (read on your iPhone, the photo isn't kept) or type the protein per 100 g and per serving. The product is saved as one of your foods with that barcode, so the next scan finds it instantly. Can't scan at all? Check the camera permission in Settings → Gram Slam, clean the lens, or type the barcode digits.

The evening check-in doesn't arrive

Turn it on in You → Evening check-in and allow notifications for Gram Slam in Settings → Notifications. It only comes on days you're short of your floor, at the time you pick, and Focus modes can hold it back.

Apple Health

What does Gram Slam read and write?

It reads weight, height, lean body mass, body fat percentage, date of birth and biological sex, only to size your floor. It writes dietary protein for each food you log (as a food entry with the food name). Nothing leaves your iPhone. Details are in the privacy policy.

I said no to Apple Health. How do I turn it on (or off)?

In Gram Slam: You → Save protein to Apple Health. If iOS doesn't ask again, open the Health app → your profile picture → Apps → Gram Slam and turn on the categories, or go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Gram Slam. Without Health, just type your weight and height in You → About you.

My protein isn't showing in Apple Health

Check that You → Save protein to Apple Health is on and that "Protein" is allowed under Health → profile → Apps → Gram Slam. Gram Slam sends entries when the app is open, so entries logged from a widget or Siri appear in Health the next time you open Gram Slam.

Gram Slam Plus

What do I get with Plus, and what stays free?

Plus lets Apple Intelligence, on your iPhone, read the hard things: a nutrition label the standard reader isn't sure about, the foods in a meal photo, and parts of a sentence the rules couldn't read. Free forever: your target, every manual way to log (usuals, chips, search, portions), the rule-based sentence reader, barcode lookup, the label form and label scanning, suggestions, Apple Health, widgets, Control Center, Siri and 14 days of history.

Why can't I buy Plus on my iPhone?

Plus only adds features that run on Apple Intelligence. If your iPhone doesn't support it, or Apple Intelligence is turned off or still downloading, Gram Slam doesn't sell Plus on that device, because it would have nothing to add. Turn on Apple Intelligence in Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri, then reopen the Plus screen. Existing subscribers can still restore their purchase.

How do I restore a purchase on a new iPhone?

Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account, then open You → Gram Slam Plus (or any Plus screen) and tap Restore purchases. Plus usually turns on by itself within a few seconds of opening the app.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. In Gram Slam: You → Gram Slam Plus → Manage subscription. Or on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Gram Slam Plus → Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge; you keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for. If you're on the free trial, cancel before it ends and you won't be charged. Apple's guide: Cancel a subscription from Apple.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

Where is my data stored? Is there an account?

There's no account. Your log, foods and profile are stored on your iPhone (and in your own iPhone backups); protein you log is also in Apple Health. The only thing sent anywhere is a barcode number, to Open Food Facts. See the privacy policy.

How do I delete all my data?
  1. In Gram Slam: You → Erase all data → Erase. This removes your profile, log, foods and settings from this iPhone.
  2. Protein already saved to Apple Health stays there until you remove it: Health app → your profile picture → Apps → Gram Slam → Delete All Data from "Gram Slam".
  3. Deleting the app also removes its data from the iPhone. Old copies can remain in earlier device backups until those are replaced.

We hold nothing on a server, so there's nothing else to delete on our side. If you've emailed us, ask and we'll delete the conversation.

Will my history survive a new iPhone?

Yes, if you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one. Gram Slam has no account or cloud sync of its own.
